The UAE's penchant for all things grand has resulted in the country cinching more than 400 Guinness World Records. While Dubai has the lion’s share of titles, there are equally remarkable record-breaking attractions to explore in the other emirates. And with the 2023 edition of the acclaimed book out now, we're taking a look at some of the big players, which will come in handy while planning your UAE itineraries.
Burj Khalifa: The world’s tallest building
The ultimate symbol of Dubai’s constant pursuit of all things larger than life, Burj Khalifa stands tall at an incredible height of 828 metres, which makes it the tallest tower in the world. But that’s not the only record it holds. Thanks to its remarkable height, it also boasts the highest number of stories found in a building with more than 160 floors, the highest occupied floor in the world, the tallest service elevator, the elevator with the longest travel distance as well as the highest outdoor observation deck.
Deep Dive Dubai: The world’s deepest diving pool
When Deep Dive Dubai opened its doors in 2021, it became the world’s deepest diving pool, inviting thrill seekers to discover new depths. It takes a staggering 14 million litres of water to fill this pool that reaches 60.02 metres deep. The adrenaline-fuelled facility is designed to resemble an abandoned sunken city with immersive zones offering experiences suited to diving enthusiasts of all levels.
Jebel Jais Flight: The world’s longest zip line
The UAE’s northernmost emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is an adventure seeker’s paradise. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Al Hajar Mountains, the city offers a unique selection of thrilling activities. For the true daredevil, nothing quite compares with Jebel Jais Flight, which holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest zip line. Set on Jebel Jais, the UAE’s tallest mountain, it covers a distance of 2.8 kilometres and reaches speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour at a height of 1,680 metres above sea level. It's a bucket list adventure for many!
Formula Rossa: The world’s fastest roller coaster
Another one for adrenaline enthusiasts, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is home to the world’s fastest roller coaster. The Formula Rossa simulates the rush that a true Scuderia Ferrari champion feels as the ride reaches a heart-pounding speed of 240 kilometres per hour in just 4.9 seconds.
Clymb Abu Dhabi: The world’s biggest indoor skydiving flight chamber
Clymb Abu Dhabi’s indoor skydiving flight chamber offers an unmatched width of 32 feet and a record-breaking height of 104 feet, making it the biggest indoor skydiving flight chamber in the world. Visitors, however, need not have unlocked expert levels before taking on the challenge. Fliers as young as three years of age can participate, as experiences are suitable for beginners and advanced fliers. Furthermore, skilled trainers are at hand to guide you throughout your flight.
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi: The world’s largest indoor theme park
A title previously held by IMG Worlds of Adventure in Dubai, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi beat the attraction to become the world’s largest indoor theme park when it opened in July 2018. The park currently features six state-of-the-art immersive zones based on the film studio’s most popular offerings, including Gotham, Metropolis, Cartoon Junction, Dynamite Gulch, Bedrock and Warner Bros. Plaza. Across these zones, visitors can take on 29 rides and attractions, with something to suit every member of the family, from adrenaline-pumping roller coasters to thrilling obstacle courses, plus gentler options for younger guests.
In more exciting news, the park will also soon become home to the Middle East's first Harry Potter-themed zone, highlighting some of the most iconic locations in the wizarding world. Fans are invited to get their wands ready and prepare to embark on a magical adventure unlike any other.
Palm Fountain: The world’s largest water fountain
It takes jets covering over 14,000 square metres of seawater, reaching up to 105 metres, and 3,000 LED lights to make up The Palm Fountain, the largest of its kind in the world. Located along the boulevard of The Pointe on Palm Jumeirah, The Palm Fountain enthrals visitors every day, from sunset to midnight, with an immersive sound, light and water show. Equally spectacular is The Dubai Fountain in Downtown Dubai which boasts the largest choreographed fountain system in the world.
